Rānui Ngarimu

Ranui is an active tāua, so active it’s difficult to even book in a cuppa with her. It must be her Ngāti Mutunga blood that naturally infuses her with energy and passion for kaupapa Māori. In particular, mahi raranga. If she’s not in her pā harakeke, she’s doing raranga or running wānanga or supporting people like me and many others who take great guidance from her. As a member and former chair of Te Rōpu Raranga Whatu o Aotearoa her skills as a Master weaver have permeated throughout Aotearoa. Ranui is in demand and many of her korowai have adorned distinguished tāngata over the years. This was recognised in 2020 when she received the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Ranui remains humble, funny, straight talking and forever creative.  Her whānau are her soul and harakeke is her rongoā.  She has attended many wānanga around the Hākui kaupapa because this in one of those kaupapa she feels passionate about. So much so she has created whītau muka for our tapuhi Māori (Māori midwives) to distribute to whānau. Check out the story about Ranui and Te Aho Pito under the Information tab, and also her oriori, Ko Patanga te Tamaiti under the Oriori tab.  See what I mean, Ranui just gives and gives and we honour her dearly.
